Introduction - What is laparoscopic surgery?

Laparoscopic Surgery is a minimally invasive approach to common surgical problems in the abdomen. Many surgical problems that traditionally were performed through large incisions are now accomplished through small keyhole incisions that result in much less surgical trauma and postoperative pain. Our practice has a special interest in Laparoscopic procedures. Our surgeons have the expertise and experience in performing many basic and advanced procedures with the Laparoscopic approach. Minimally invasive Laparoscopic surgery often results in the following advantages over conventional incisions:

     • Less post operative pain
     • Less complications
     • Shorter recovery period
     • Earlier return to work
     • Smaller incisions
     • Better cosmetic result

Laparoscopic techniques use an instrument similar to a telescope that is placed into the abdomen after the abdomen is inflated with a gas. The laparoscope's is connected to video technology that allows the surgeon to perform the surgery by viewing the operative field on a screen. Small-specialized instruments are placed through small tubes called ports. Our practice applies this technology whenever it is possible and appropriate for our patients. Our practice performs all of the procedures that are listed at the top of this page.
